The Finnish company WE Tech Solutions is an energy solution provider that originates from the coastal city of Vaasa. The company has a wide global presence in the shipping world and has provided efficient energy solutions to over 100 vessels globally. WE Tech Solutions is constantly growing, going from 33 employees in 2022 to 50 employees in 2023. From 2019 to 2022, the turnover grew from 7 million to 34 million. The company strives to create savings and reduce emissions by improving energy efficiency in the shipping industry.

The Finnish electric vehicle DC fast charging solutions provider Kempower has recently opened a new office and RDI center in the city of Vaasa. Kempower primarily concentrates on the electrification of transportation. In Vaasa, the company’s focus is on the development of DC fast charging solutions especially for heavy transport. In 2020, the company’s revenue was 3 million euros, and already in 2022, the revenue had risen to 104 million euros. In 2023, the revenue is expected to be around 280-310 million euros.

The Iceland Ocean Cluster organized from 6th to 7th of October 2023 a Nordic cross-border hackathon in the capital city of Reykjavik. Competitors from all over the Nordic region were selected to participate, and from Finland Emelie Toppari and Joni Toppari were chosen to represent EnergyVaasa. This Finnish team also represented the MAREN project.

In the Vaasa region on the West Coast of Finland, exciting developments are taking place in the maritime sector. The Zero Marine Emission ecosystem program, led by Wärtsilä, is a project aiming at reaching 60% greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction in the maritime by 2030. This four-year project revolves around key themes such as new technologies, green fuels, optimized operations, and new business models. This concept is built upon principles of openness, transparency, and collaboration among various stakeholders in the ecosystem.
