A Collaborative Initiative for Green Growth

The center is based on the Ostrobothnia Innovation and Growth Strategy 2022–2025 and builds on models developed in the Erasmus+ Greenovet project. It is now an integral part of the regional education and innovation ecosystem.

Key Initiatives

  • Skill Gap Analysis: A comprehensive assessment of green education needs and opportunities, conducted in collaboration with businesses and educational institutions.
  • Green Skills Week: An annual event in partnership with businesses, offering hands-on learning experiences for students.
    Education and Training Registry: A compiled list of green sector education programs in the region.
  • Student Projects and Competitions: Opportunities for students to engage in real-world sustainability challenges.

Vaasa is a European Green Leaf City for 2026. The award, granted by the European Commission, is given to cities that promote sustainable development and are committed to advancing environmental and climate action. During our Green Leaf year, we will take climate and environmental action, showcase Vaasa’s expertise, and encourage residents, businesses, communities and universities to get involved. The theme of our Green Leaf year is: Making a Difference Makes Us Happy in Vaasa.

Enhancing Education, Innovation, and Collaboration

Green Skills Vaasa boosts the visibility of education and innovation while strengthening collaboration between educational institutions, businesses, and research organizations. It promotes multilingual and multidisciplinary cooperation, identifies synergies for projects and funding, and fosters international student engagement.

A skills needs assessment is conducted every three years, gathering insights from industry, education, and other stakeholders to identify emerging competence demands.
