Microsoft enters into a preliminary agreement on land acquisitions in Vaasa and Mustasaari
Microsoft has entered into a preliminary agreement on land acquisitions totalling around 190 hectares in the GigaVaasa area to support a potential data centre project. Of the total area, approximately two thirds are located in Vaasa and one third in Mustasaari. If implemented, the project will boost competitiveness and energy expertise in the Vaasa region.
Tomas Häyry, Mayor of Vaasa, welcomes the prospect of GigaVaasa gaining a reliable international operator.
– If implemented, the project will bring us additional data and energy expertise, strengthening our position as a global energy technology hub, Häyry says.
According to Rurik Ahlberg, Mayor of Mustasaari, investments in data technology and artificial intelligence are a welcome addition to the Vaasa region’s already strong expertise portfolio.
– One of the region’s strongest selling points is the wide range of jobs available. There is no doubt that today’s news is significant for the entire Vaasa region, Ahlberg says.
