Ports as Multifunctional Platforms

The seminar starts with an academic overview by Professor Petri Helo from the University of Vaasa. Helo focuses on perspectives on sustainable development in logistics and transportation.

Helo’s presentation is followed by a panel discussion to concretize different initiatives. Port Director Janne Pylkkönen talks about how the Port of Vaasa has through the years strengthened its ecosystem position to serve as a multifunctional platform for its stakeholders.

Freight Director Tony Ehrs shares insight on how sustainability is a building block for Wasaline’s freight concept, and Ahola logistics’ HR Director (Sustainability) Anneli Heikkilä talks about the company’s progressive development, combining data and logistics to push sustainability. Nurminen Logistics’ Operations Manager (Rail) Mika Ritonen, has an accurate take on global rail freight development with a focus on the Nordics.

– We are happy to lift these interesting speakers in the seminar, to showcase what is being done within the field, says VASEK’s Logistics Expert Anna Måtts-Fransén.

– The seminar is arranged together with the Port of Vaasa and the logistics network Finnhub Ry. Energy Week is a great opportunity to gather experts and discuss accurate themes and prospects, Måtts-Fransén continues.

The seminar is a part of the project Port as an innovation platform for clean transition, co-funded by the European Union.
