Thousands of Happy Stories

Vaasa Region Development Company VASEK has published a book titled Vaasa Region – Thousands of Happy Stories. It presents the region through first-class photographs and fascinating texts.

The book has three sections. ”Happiest people in the world” tells, with help of facts and description, why residents in the Vaasa region have it exceptionally good. The reader is presented to little Rimma Heinonen who will get two mother tongues, Finnish and Swedish, for free, and can expect a good and long life ahead of her, as women along the west coast have the longest life expectancy in Finland.

The section “Pacesetter in the energy sector” presents how the foremost Nordic energy-technology cluster emerged in the region. Did John Wickström know what his presentation of a motorized fishing boat at a seemingly small event in Vaasa harbor in 1906 would lead to? Today, the energy technology cluster employs more than 10 000 persons at some 120 companies.

The third important feature is the World Natural Heritage site Kvarken Archipelago. In the section “Rocks on the roll” the reader is reminded of the region’s unique nature and the opportunities it offers. It is fully possible to live in the middle of the World Heritage site and to see how the landscape changes during one’s lifetime and how nautical charts constantly need to be updated due to land rising.

The book has been put together by Mantra Communications, C2 Advertising and photographer Katja Lösönen. VASEKs Communications Manager Suvi Markko, head of the team behind the book, says that there has long been a need for this kind of book.

– Representatives for various companies and organizations have at regular intervals asked if there is material that could be handed out to visitors to the region. This book portrays the most essential, fascinating and exciting information on the region that we want to share. Not to mention the beautiful photos, it is through them that the region's unique character becomes apparent, says Markko.
