Spotlight High-Low Coast

The Spotlight High‐Low Coast is a cross-border World Heritage project that focuses on tourism and the economic life and aims to introduce new product packages and marketing materials in order to attract more visitors to the High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site and its surrounding regions in a sustainable way. The Umeå Municipality also participates in the project because the Umeå region is a part of the natural route between the two regions of the shared World Heritage Site.

The project’s target group consists of entrepreneurs, tourism organizations and World Heritage Site administrators in these three sub-regions. The goal is, among other things, to create concrete product packages and marketing materials in the hope of attracting visitors by highlighting reasons for visits in a new and sustainable way to the High Coast / Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage Site and its surrounding regions. All measures are to be directed at jointly agreed markets and must be available for use in the cross-border cooperation in the Kvarken region. The concepts derived from this cooperation will be tested during the project and they will also function as models after this time. The cooperation with destination management companies in the concerned regions will be of utmost importance.

The project is expected to contribute to the increased number of visitors in the region and, at the same time, complement Umeå and Vaasa's efforts to improve the connections and trade over the Kvarken Strait via the Midway Alignment project.

The European Regional Development Fund is financing the project via the Botnia-Atlantica programme. In addition to the Kvarken Council (the principal partner), the other three main cooperation partners are the Vaasa Region Development Company (VASEK), Höga Kusten Destinationsutveckling AB and Umeå Municipality/Visit Umeå, all of which also provide financing for the project. Other co-financiers include the Regional Council of Ostrobothnia, the County Administrative Board of Västernorrland, Västernorrland County Council, Vaasa Region Tourism/Visit Vaasa, and Världsarvet i Kvarken r.f. (Kvarken Archipelago World Heritage site association).
