Wasa Footballcup has for over 20 years succeeded in inviting tens of thousands of joyful and talented junior football players to the city. So far the players have become familiar with all the football arenas in the city but Vaasa is a lot more than that.
- This year we wanted to bring the event to the heart of the city. Many of the junior players and their parents have never seen the city centre before. During the three-day-long event, from Thursday to Saturday, the youngest players will be having matches on a mini football field right on the market place. I'm sure that the youngsters' matches will intrest people that normally don't follow football and they will join the crowd, tells Mikko Ollikainen from Wasa Football Cup.
Despite the economic recession the Vaasa region is doing well. Among other things the unemployment rate is one the lowest in Finland, which is due to the region's many energy companies' success and know-how on the global arenas. The energy cluster is a success story in the Vaasa region.
- Green values are very important to the energetic Vaasa region. The R&D efforts of the biggest energy cluster in the Nordic countries for cheaper energy production has borne fruit. The city's economic activity, the city itself and the universities are happy to support healthy living and youth sports, says the region's communications manager Suvi Markko.
The companies, universities and the city are presented in a tent by the market place. By the tent you can also find playful activities for people in all ages.
- A TV-program called Woimaxi was filmed in the Vaasa region during the past couple of years. The program emphasized green values. The spiral was one of the contests presented in the program and now you have the chance to test it and challenge your friend.
We are of course happy to share information about our companies, the city and our universities, Markko adds.
